A Really BAD UTI

On Monday morning I greeting my mom in her hospital bed. She seemed better than the night before, but still not 100%. We were still waiting on the results from the scans and tests. Around 9:30pm we found out that she had a really BAD UTI and even though she didn't have the normal feelings and symptoms, a 10 mil kidney stone was the cause of the UTI.

About 1 hour after getting her results, it all went downhill...super fast. A BIG team of people came rushing in the room to tend to her. Within that hour she started having cold chills and her temp spiked over 103. Her skin tone went from pinkish to grayish blue. It went on for about an hour. My dad, myself, my sister and some of her kids watched as the team worked trying to save her life.

My mom is still young if you ask me and she'll be 63 on the 10th. I've never...NEVER seen my mom this sick. Once her color came back and she was stable, they rushed her into surgery. They put a tube in her side to drain the kidney.  And the cold chills? They came from the infection getting in her blood stream.

The team was amazing and the Lord was watching over her. Today, she is sooooo much better and the tube/drain is helping. After everything had calmed down and I talked to the ICU nurse, she said "Your mother scared us. Just know that when we get called down from ICU, it's only because a patient is very ill and could die".

Today she is tired from yesterday's eventful day. I'm so grateful for all of your prayers and comments. I just couldn't even imagine having to say goodbye to my mom yesterday. When I got home I called a good friend and finally let it all out. I sobbed for about 20 minutes. It was a lot to take in and I was trying to be there for her and my dad. Trying to be "strong".

Oh and about the workout... I didn't get in the workout. Although, I was running ALL OVER that hospital and I ate really well. Plus my sister caught me in a corner doing squats and lunges. I just didn't do a Zumba tape. Tonight I weigh in and honestly I just don't even care. My mom is more important. For the first time in my life, I didn't eat because I was upset. Really people, that's a first. So well see how I do at weigh in.

Thanks again for all your support. It means so much to me.
And... I LOVE YOU MOM! SO MUCH!!!!

So glad to hear that your mom is better! My sister had a bad UTI / kidney infection that sounds a lot like you described. She was in the hospital for about 8 days and it was scary at times.

Good for you for not stress-eating (and doing squats at the hospital!). You're obviously taking your weight loss journey seriously, which means you are going to be successful.

I am so glad your mom is getting better and they figured out what was making her sick. Hang in there!

Thanks for keeping us posted and I think you would have been out of balanced with messed up priorities had you done a Zumba tape. It was important to eat good but seriously, if you were to have thought your goals were more important this week it would have been completely selfish. Wish we were closer. We are praying and it looks like the lord is listening.
